Description of Department: The Department of Residence Life and Housing at SUNY Oswego is a leader in developing a premier residential environment where students are actively engaged in their learning experience. Our environment places student learning and success at the center of all our formal and informal programs, policies, procedures, and physical facilities. Our department encourages collaboration with other students, faculty, and staff in and out of the classroom to enrich the learning experience. Furthermore, our programs are directed to enhance students’ capacity and aspirations for growth intellectually, socially, aesthetically, interpersonally, and physically. The Department purposefully and intentionally provides programs and experiences that will offer our residential students a comparative advantage among college graduates.
The Department of Residence Life and Housing at the State University of New York at Oswego is seeking qualified applicants for our Assistant Hall Director (AHD) position; this is a live-in, half-time Graduate Assistantship. A minimum of twenty hours of work per week is expected for this position.
Multiple vacancies anticipated for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Selection Process: Applicants must apply to a SUNY Oswego Graduate Program before their AHD application will be considered. After initial screening, which may include telephone interviews, finalists will be invited for on-campus interviews.
Compensation: Compensation includes a $7000 annual stipend and tuition assistance for six (6) credits for the first semester of employment and nine (9) credits per semester thereafter. Health insurance is also available through the Graduate Assistant Union. A fully furnished one-bedroom apartment, all utilities (including local phone, cable tv, internet), free on-campus parking, and a full meal plan while classes are in session during fall and spring semesters. A full meal plan may also be provided for the AHD’s spouse/qualifying domestic partner when classes are in session during the fall and spring academic semesters, per departmental approval. Occupancy of the apartment is for the term of employment. All compensation is pending budgetary allowance and the stipend is subject to appropriate personal income taxation as determined by the IRS code. Summer employment opportunities may be available.
Date of Appointment: August 1, 2018, through May 31, 2019, with potential reappointment for a second year.
Description of Responsibilities: The AHD is responsible for assisting the Residence Hall Director in assuring the successful functioning of the residence hall as an educational environment consistent with the academic and educational mission of the College. Specific duties include serving in the professional on-call duty rotation, opening/closing of buildings, and supervising the reception desk and recycling operations in the assigned residence hall, including supervision of undergraduate student staff. AHDs are provided with a tuition waiver of six (6) credits for their first semester and nine (9) credits thereafter, but are not allowed to take additional credits during the fall and spring semesters. AHDs are not allowed to participate in any student teaching or full-time internships/practicums during the term of employment.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and matriculation into a SUNY Oswego Graduate Program by August 1, 2018. AHDs are required to maintain a minimum cumulative and semester GPA of 3.0 for the term of employment.
Preferred Qualifications: Preferred candidates will demonstrate an understanding of the co-academic mission of a residence life program.
