Undergraduate Admissions, Graduate Assistant

Below is a description of a graduate assistant position available through the Office of
Admissions for the academic year, Fall 2020 – Spring 2021.
Proposed Performance Program for Graduate Assistant:
Proposed Appointment Date: Fall 2020 – Spring 2021
Position Title: Graduate Assistant
Hours: Approximately 10 hours per week;
Additional hours over semester break;
Additional summer hours possible
Compensation: Competitive and may include limited tuition remission

Functional Relationships: Administrative offices, academic departments, prospective
students and parents.
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Interview, counsel, and correspond with applicants and their families.
2. Give formal group presentations.
3. Assist with various communication projects (research, editing for publications;
social media; virtual tour).
4. Transfer Committee member.
5. Contribute to Application Completion initiatives
6. Other related projects as needed.
1. Provide helpful admissions information to candidates, their families, counselors,
and others, both in person and via the phone, mail, and email. This objective will
be considered met if interviewing is helpful and courteous and if correspondence is
clear and concise.
2. Provide informative and persuasive presentations to prospective students and
families to provide college overview and benefits of attending. Existing PowerPoint
serves as a guide
3. Assist w/ various communication projects to ensure that the public is adequately
and persuasively informed about opportunities at SUNY Oswego
4. Participate as a member of the Committee on Admissions; decisions must be
timely and defensible to outside review.
5. Contribute toward an application completion initiative; as part of a team, implement
approaches to increase the percentage of students completing their admissions
application; reduce the length of time for students take for application completion.
6. Other related projects as needed.
